What will you see and hear as you walk around Carden West School

Our campus is surrounded by an expansive green area in the state-of-the-art business and residential Hacienda Park in Pleasanton.  Our facility is attractive, modern, safe and well maintained. As you enter our campus, you will be welcomed by our friendly and professional staff.

In the hallways:  You will hear quiet footsteps and voices of children as they move from class to class.  The hallways are wide, well lit and cheerfully decorated with student work that celebrates their current studies.

In the classrooms:  You may be greeted by silence as students work or take a test.  More frequently, you will hear the sound of voices and see students interacting with one another, making suggestions or predictions, asking questions, seeking support from a peer or teacher.  You may hear students involved in a group project where all students contribute and remember to be respectful of others’ opinions. You will see teachers involved in instruction, facilitation or supporting their students’ learning. The classrooms are colorful, tidy and child focused. The abundant natural light adds to the cheeriness of the rooms.

In the computer labs:  You will hear the clicking of keys and excited voices as students work independently on computers to complete a given task.  The Lab teacher is available to guide the learning and support the technological process.

In the cafeteria:  You will note that lunch is a social time and you will see students eating nourishing food while chatting happily with their peers.  Students are well supervised while enjoying their meal.

In the Music room: You will hear the sound of music as students learn how sounds are put together to produce music, learning about and feeling the rhythm and beat.  You are likely to see happy students engaging in musical experience or learning about music theory.

In the Language Labs:  You may catch phrases of English, French, Mandarin or Spanish.  Students may be learning basic vocabulary, playing a game to reinforce understanding or participating in a conversation to better strengthen their knowledge and increase their fluency.  Carden West offers several options in the study of languages, a direct reflection of how diverse both our community and the world are becoming.

In our Library:  Since reading is central to learning, our students are encouraged to read, share and learn to love books.  Seeing a child curled up with a book in our inviting library or in a classroom is a prime example of how we strive to encourage life-long learning.

In our Art room:  Expect to hear excited voices as you see students creatively complete their assignment. Their faces will probably be filled with intent and the drive to achieve. Children guided through our art curriculum by our talented art teacher. All results are accepted and individuals are praised for their efforts.

Outdoors:  You will see both a large grassy area and a paved playground. Developing both social and physical skills demands interaction, which you will hear from a distance.  Students are well supervised in both their PE classes and their periods of free play.
