Educating the Whole Child
Throughout the year each class participates in special events and programs focused on extending the learning opportunities. Students participate in character education programs and are rewarded when they are 'caught' demonstrating positive character traits. Field trips, assemblies, and guest programs such as "Lunch with a Scientist", zoomobile, and home safety are just a few examples of the special programs offered to Carden West students. Field trips and assemblies are planned to enhance the themes and concepts taught in the classroom. For more information on current offerings, please contact the school office.
ALL students enrolled in Carden West are also accepted into our extended care program. Extended care operates from 7:00 am to 8:10 am and from school dismissal until 6 pm. A "drop-in" service is also available if space permits. Extended care includes a snack and outdoor time, as well as organized and supervised homework/study time. Extended care is supervised by credentialed teachers and staff. Additional pay-for-service activities are also available during extended care hours. These additional activities include music instruction, acting, science labs, computer labs, and chess. Carden West was voted Favorite After-School Academic Enrichment Program 2008 by readers of Bay Area Parent Magazine.
